Home Architecture: 5 Hottest Trends for 2017

Philippine Architects

Architects in the Philippines can’t wait to get their hands on the trends that are going to emerge this 2017. It only means that they have new ideas or concepts to experiment or play with.

Window Talk

Most often than not, we ignore this essential part of our house. This coming 2017, it will have a share on the architectural design spotlight. The Builder Online mentioned three trends under this category. Among the three, it is the “home automation, aging in place, and energy efficiency” trend that is going to be a perfect match for the generation who imperceptibly embraces the wonders of smart home technology. Older people could benefit as well.

Sal Abbate of Andersen Windows imparts his insights in the said website on this matter: “The smart home really does two things, it helps the older generations open and close their doors for easier operation, and on the millennial side it gives them that lifestyle of everything digital.” As for energy-efficiency, smart windows can reduce the heat transferred through the glass thus saving energy costs in cooling a home, as told by Eco-Business.

Same room, Different Function(s)

In 2017, the formal living and dining room are here to stay but with different functionality, according to an article in D Magazine. The typical living room could be a parlor or a library. The latter is possible once you place a mini bookcase at the side of the room. Or when you place it near the patio, it could be an instant party room where your guests gather or mingle.

Healthy Homes

D Magazine and Builder Online agree in one thing: the future of green and smart homes is now. Homeowners and architects in the Philippines will approve on this, too, and will be self-conscious in terms of their design choices that may harm not just the environment but the occupants of the house as well. A D Magazine article says, “People are choosing surfaces that are easier on the body, and clean-air infiltration systems.”

You don’t need to go over the top such as renovating your home into a smart one. It could be as simple as buying Energy Star labeled appliances.

Bathroom as a Wellness Area

Tick off glass shower enclosure on your house makeover list. The elements of wood, greens and ceramic will dominated bathrooms this 2017. A surprise fact: this design is so millennial. DesignRulz explains that this generation aims for an organic relaxation “apparent in exotic furnishings, specific ‘wellness area’ designs, and the influx of natural materials” that will be seen more in bathrooms the next year.

A Kitchen that Sells Homes

Do you have no idea how to give your kitchen some love and the edge to be competitive on the real estate market? Architects in the Philippines can learn a thing or two from Zillow Digs’ fearless forecast for 2017. Furnish this valuable space with tuxedo cabinets, hidden appliances, mixed hardware finishes and sleek wood paneling, Inman suggests. On the other hand, you can say goodbye to speckled granite, short cabinets and dark paint and wood finishes. Kitchens in 2017 are more of marble countertops, tall cabinets and bright shades.

Remember that there is nothing wrong with following a trend, just make sure you have the money and resources to build or transform a home ready for 2017.
